Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the services on this page may have changed. For up-to-date information, please visit our Operating Status page.

Dear Volunteer, or Donor,

The Captain James A. Lovell FHCC cares about your health and wellbeing. We continue to implement additional precautionary measures for the health and safety of patients, staff and volunteers to help lessen the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19. Everyone entering the main hospital is screened and provided a surgical mask to wear while in our facility.

As of Nov. 28, 2022, we are again in the High Health Protection Level. That means visitation is allowed only on a case-by-case basis and approved by clinical care teams. Additionally, we ask patients to arrive for appointments alone unless it's necessary to have one companion for health and safety reasons.

Volunteering at the FHCC continues to be limited because of COVID-19. However, some exceptions can be made if approved ahead of time. We welcome our Veteran Service Organizations this holiday season to continue supporting our patients in whatever ways we can accommodate. Please ask me what is possible. Our patients truly appreciate the outpouring of support  from our volunteers and donors during the holidays and every day.

If you would like to donate food, gifts, or other items to Lovell FHCC patients, please contact me kenneth.list@va.gov and/or Kimberly.Skorupa@va.gov, or call our office at 224-610-3714. We appreciate everything you do, from greeting cards to monetary donations.

The most important factor is your health. Please take care of yourself and stay healthy. We will get through this together.

Sincerely,
KENNETH L. LIST
Chief, Community Affairs

Other news for our volunteers

Know that we miss you and look forward to the day when we will see all of you again at Lovell Federal Health Care Center. The FHCC relies on the generosity of our hundreds of volunteers, and donors, to enrich the lives of our patients.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond, we all will continue to promote our mission of "Readying Warriors and Caring for Heroes" - with your help

We always look for ways to make things more convenient. We've been holding "Tele-Town Halls" with great success. Watch our Facebook page for times and dates, https://www.facebook.com/lovellfhcc/, or call 224-610-3714 to ask about the next one. Patients participate via phone, from the comfort of their living rooms or wherever they choose to be when they answer their phones.

Also we are offering many virtual Whole Health activities, including MOVE! Healthy Kitchen cooking demonstrations on Facebook. Check the events listed on our Facebook page for both the tele-town halls and cooking demonstrations.

Speaking of Whole Health, many patients start their Whole Health journey by attending our two-hour (usually less) Orientation to Whole Health. There you learn about the Whole Health concept and individualized Whole Health coaching, the key to getting started. The classes and coaching may be offered virtually. Call our Whole Health Wellness Hotline at 224-610-7609.

For anything Whole Health, including information about when in-person classes will resume and to sign up, contact the Whole Health hotline at 224-610-7609.

In terms of patient care, go to our flu shot page for info. on how you can get vaccinated: https://www.lovell.fhcc.va.gov/Influenza_Season.asp

For the latest on COVID-19 vaccinations, including the bivalent vaccine, go to: https://www.lovell.fhcc.va.gov/services/covid-19-vaccines.asp

You may also get the Shingles vaccine "Shingrix" at our Community Based Outpatient Clinics and at the main hospital in North Chicago.

Volunteer
Volunteers provide many important functions throughout the health care facility and help make our patients' stay more satisfying. Volunteers can perform a number of services, and a volunteer's talents are closely matched with one of our many assignments.

To volunteer, call or make an appointment to visit the Lovell FHCC Voluntary Service Office. We will be happy to receive your application or discuss how you can help us in our mission to provide comfort and care to America's veterans and members of the military.
